Luna Nueva, established in Asuncion in 1995, works to combat violence against woman and children. It is the only organisation in Paraguay that works specifically on problems related to the sexual and commercial exploitation of children. It carries out this work through the development and implementation of programs offered to exploited children and also to adult sex workers on education, health, self-esteem, human rights and the prevention of violence. Luna Nueva pays daily visits to women and children who live on the streets and are involved in prostitution, offering them medical information, health counseling, and continuous support.

Paraguay is a source, transit and destination country for child trafficking for labour and sexual purposes, especially within the Tri-Border Area (Argentina, Brazil, and Paraguay). Child domestic workers are particularly vulnerable to trafficking for sexual purposes.
Children and adolescents from rural areas are often trafficked into bigger cities such as Asunción or Ciudad del Este for SEC-related purposes.
