The ECPAT Internship Programme

If you are a young professional who would like to specialize in children’s rights, ECPAT might be the perfect organisation for you! We regularly advertise new internship positions in legal research, communication, fundraising and programming.

ECPAT International’s Internship Programme gives recent graduates and young professionals the opportunity to learn about ECPAT International, and to learn about and acquire practical training in the fields of child rights advocacy, research, and child protection programming, specifically in the area of child sexual exploitation. Opportunities are mostly in the professional field of international human rights law, but may also occur in the area of communications, fundraising, and general programme support.

During the internship, participants have an opportunity to work with professional experts in the ECPAT Secretariat, and depending on the specific assignment, with ECPAT network members, partner organisations and external child rights experts. The internship programme aims at a learning-in-action or an experiential learning approach which means that the orientation and learning of each intern will take place largely through direct involvement in the work agendas and activities of the ECPAT Secretariat. Interns at ECPAT International make an important contribution to the work of the Secretariat in ending the sexual exploitation of children. The support and commitment of ECPAT’s interns have a direct and valuable impact on the range and breadth of work that the Secretariat takes on.

Opportunities and Qualifications

Opportunities for an internship are published on ECPAT’s website through vacancy notices. The opportunities are based on specific assignments within a certain timeframe, as identified within ECPAT’s programme and research planning.

ECPAT offers internships to interested candidates with an advanced university degree and academic background in law, social science, social work, human rights and political science. Other qualifications and skills that are considered of advantage include strong research and writing skills; ability to synthesize large amounts of information into concise formats; experience in working with human rights and social development issues specifically as these relate to the rights of children. Detailed requirements on qualifications for the various assignments are indicated in the vacancy notice.

For most opportunities, fluency in English language is required, though knowledge of other ECPAT network languages (French, Spanish, Russian) is highly desirable.

A commitment of minimum of six months is required in order to maximize the value of the internship opportunity for both ECPAT and the Intern.

Information of Interest

All costs related to the internship, including travel, accommodation, cost of living, cost of visa and insurance are to be borne by the intern. ECPAT provides the intern with a modest stipend of Thai Baht 15,000 per month in support to the cost of living, though this does not support the full cost of living. This stipend will only be provided to interns who will be based in ECPAT’s office in Bangkok and who are not sponsored by any other institution or organisation.

Participants in the programme are required to obtain a non-immigrant visa for Thailand to enable them to carry out the internship with ECPAT. Visa regulations differ based on the nationality of the applicant and place of application. Detailed information on expected visa regulations and processes for individual applicants can be provided during the recruitment process. How to Apply

Individuals interested in interning with ECPAT should follow the instructions given in the vacancy notices published on our Website and send an email with motivation letter and curriculum vitae to vacancy@ecpat.org. Mention your name and the title of the position in the email subject line.

ECPAT screens each application carefully but due to limited resources, only shortlisted candidates will be invited to take part in the further recruitment process. Due to the large interest and limited resources, only applications for published positions will be considered. Open applications will not be considered.
