GARA calls upon destinations to prioritise child protection

Posted on May 20, 2020

The Regional Action Group of the Americas (GARA – Grupo de Acción Regional de las Américas) continues its campaign and calls upon destinations to prioritise child protection now, and in the view of the restart of tourism.

#WeDoNotAcknowledgeChildSexTourism #NoReconocemosUnTurismoSexualInfantil
The correct terminology is the sexual exploitation of children in travel and tourism. It’s not tourism, it’s a crime.

GARA is composed of the National Tourism Administrations in 16 countries that work to promote a culture of ZERO TOLERANCE to any form of sexual exploitation of children in the context of travel and tourism. Together with tourism service providers, we aim to build a #TourismFreeFromExploitation #TurismoLibreDeExplitación.

The commitment of the travel and tourism sector does not stop. Now, it is important to prepare safe and sustainable tourist destinations, free of violence and sexual exploitation of children, in view of the restart of tourism after COVID-19.

#GARA #ThereIsNoSuchAThingAsChildSexTourism #ElTurismoSexualInfantilNoExiste

The Regional Action Group of the Americas (GARA – Grupo de Acción Regional de las Américas) enhances cooperation and coordination efforts in the region, focusing on raising awareness and delivering trainings to prevent the sexual exploitation of children in travel and tourism.  It is currently composed of 16 Ministries, Institutes, and Secretariats of Tourism.
