Australia: More effective prevention needed to protect children

Child prostitution remains a pressing concern in Australia and recent reports also indicate that child pornography is reaching epidemic proportions in the country. Although a number of policy and legislative initiatives have been adopted to address the issue of commercial sexual exploitation, ECPAT International recommends that the government develops a new comprehensive national plan and policy addressing all forms of child commercial sexual exploitation. Further collaboration and awareness raising of a number of stakeholders is necessary as part of more effective prevention strategies and more funding and resources are needed for the recovery and reintegration of child victims.
