In the three weeks following 20th December 2020, there was a 46% drop in reports of online child sex abuse from EU Member States.
Because companies have stopped scanning for sexual abuse content.
Because the European Electronic Communications Code requires them to and the EU’s political Trilogue has failed to reach an agreement on a temporary derogation. Every day this continues more children are put at risk. Sexually exploitative content stays online. Abused children are denied their right to be found and helped.
The political Trilogue must be convened as soon as possible and the three parties must agree to a temporary derogation so as to restore the status quo ante. Companies can resume scanning for child sexual abuse content and harmful sexual behaviour towards children.
During the temporary derogation, a longer-term policy can be agreed.
There has been much disinformation about the nature of tools being used. They have been designed and used solely for the purposes of online child protection.
Please let Birgit Sippel Member of European Parliament, and the Rapporteur on the Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs (LIBE) know how you feel and urge her to agree to the temporary derogation.
