Report finds Kyrgyzstan is failing to protect children

Posted on Jul 24, 2012

ECPAT today released its in-depth report on the state of commercial sexual exploitation in Kyrgyzstan. The report revealed an alarming shortfall in government action to protect children.

The report highlighted how the recent flare-up of inter-ethnic clashes in the south has made children more vulnerable to sexual exploitation and drew attention to the rise in  ‘bride-kidnapping’ and forced marriages.

ECPAT stressed the need for the government to commit to producing a National Plan of Action to combat the commercial sexual exploitation of children and recommended a number of amendments to Kyrgyzstan’s Criminal Code.
