The “Hope and Help” NGO is a non-governmental organization founded in 1998 by a group of dedicated medical professionals and psychologists. The organization works to strengthen cooperation between government institutions and civil society organizations in addressing trafficking in women and children, sexual exploitation, and violence against children, including technology-facilitated abuse. Its core activities include capacity building for professionals, public awareness raising, rehabilitation and support services for survivors, and research aimed at strengthening prevention, protection, and response mechanisms.

Facts
Armenian women and children are trafficked for sexual purposes within the country’s borders as well as in United Arab Emirates and Turkey; they are also vulnerable to be forced to beg domestically. Within the country, children are vulnerable to labor trafficking including agriculture, construction and service provision.
In 2013, Armenia raised the legal age of marriage for both boys and girls from 17 to 18 years. Despite this, in 2016 7% of women between the ages 20-24 had been married before their 18th birthday.
Between 2010 and 2014, the Office of the Prosecutor General cites nine convictions for the trafficking of children for the purpose of prostitution in Armenia. Additional statistics register 61 cases of sexual crimes against girls and 3 against boys in 2014.

Active extraterritorial jurisdiction is provided in Armenian legislation and requires double criminality. A limited passive extraterritorial jurisdiction applies to foreigners and stateless persons not permanently residing in Armenia under concitions, however SEC-related offences are excluded.
Extraditable offences are those considered punishable in both Armenia and the requesting State by imprisonment for at least one year. Extradition for the execution of a sentence is granted if those actions are also punishable in Armenia and the person was sentenced to at least six months of prison. There is no specific provision on the extradition of SEC-related offences but most SEC-related offences meet the principle of severity of the punishment.
