Ireland was selected for this case study as a country where collaborative actions have been undertaken in recent years in an attempt to end orphanage voluntourism. This case study reflects information gathered through desk research, interviews, and the practice of civil society organisations that form Comhlámh’s End Orphanage Volunteering Working Group (EOVWG).
The case study has been prepared to showcase examples of an actionable framework to regulate voluntourism in orphanages by governments and businesses, from the sending country’s perspective.
