The Moldovan network of National Organisations Fighting against Child Prostitution and Trafficking was established in September 2006 and became affiliated with the ECPAT network in March 2007. It consists of seven child rights organisations whose primary objective is to promote the rights of children and protect them from sexual exploitation.

Facts

Moldovan children are subjected to trafficking for sexual purposes within the country, in the Middle East, Africa, East Asia, Russia, Ukraine and other European countries. Moldovan children are also victims of sexual exploitation in travel and tourism by foreign or domestic tourists, travellers and longer-term visitors notably from the European Union, Australia, Israel, Thailand, and the United States. According to the 2016 Global Study on SECTT, 178 children were exploited in prostitution in Moldova between 2005 and 2007. A shelter for children victims of sexual exploitation, abuse and trafficking was opened in 2016 with the support of UNICEF Moldova to ensure the protection and rehabilitation of child victims.
